23 Things I’m Thankful for – Thanksgiving 2023

Every year, I try to list at least one more thing I’m thankful for each Thanksgiving. With all that’s going on in the world and in our own country, it’s not always easy, but I find that taking the time to appreciate what we have is what Thanksgiving is all about. It helps me deal better with life’s sometimes unpleasant challenges and realize how truly fortunate I am.

  1. As always, I’m thankful for my wonderful wife Judy & family and their love & support.  If I had nothing else they alone would make me a most fortunate man – 36+ years (and counting) and I’ve still got her fooled;
  2. I’m thankful that my health is good, my torn glute is pain-free and I can still walk the golf course (hopefully my game will recover soon);
  3. I’m thankful that my family and friends are (for the most part) happy, healthy and thriving and especially for those friends who’ve recovered or are on comebacks from health setbacks;
  4. I’m thankful for my many friends, this year especially for those non-Jewish friends who have reached out concerned about our well-being as Jews given the state of world affairs and the rise in anti-semitism.
  5. I’m thankful that my grandson Orsen, who turns 3 this month is healthy, happy and growing strong – hopefully we can all keep up with this busy little guy;
  6. I’m also thankful that Orsen seems to have an affinity for golf and I look forward to taking him out on the links;
  7. I’m thankful that my son Max and his bride Deborah are thriving as parents and professionally and building their life and family in a beautiful home in (nearby) suburbia;
  8. I’m thankful that our daughter Ali is chasing her dreams as a lawyer in New York and truly making the world a better place;
  9. I’m thankful that Jack is thriving in the golf industry and getting to practice journalism in a good place;
  10. I’m especially thankful to have watched our kids grow into mensches who “get it”;
  11. I’m thankful that Judy and I have been able to “be there” for friends, family and causes confronting various challenges;
  12. I’m thankful that we’ve been able to help others not as fortunate as we are in our own small way;
  13. I’m thankful for the advances of science & technology which positively impact our health and lives every day;
  14. I’m thankful for the fascinating clients and assignments we’ve been entrusted with, including some very prominent clubs and unique tasks;
  15. I’m thankful for having had the opportunity to coach high school golf this year. What a great experience!;
  16. I’m thankful for the continued ability to be active, play golf, exercise and for the great golf trip we took to Scotland this past summer. Planning to go again in 2024;
  17. I’m thankful that our nation’s democracy is still alive and that we live in a country that encourages civil discourse and expression though I wish it were more civil;
  18. I’m thankful that after 40+ years I still love my job and clients continue to have confidence in us;
  19. I’m especially thankful that many of our clients have expressed sincere appreciation for our efforts on their behalf:

  23. I’m thankful that when I encounter people who are nasty, mean and ill-willed that while often frustrating, I am able to feel empathy for them because they fail to experience true happiness.
